Transform IT Spend

Transforming Your Technology Spend into Strategic Value

Evangelize Performance Framework

At Evangelize Consulting, we understand that managing technology costs can be challenging. IT investments are often complex, hard to track, and sometimes misaligned with business objectives.

That’s why we have embedded Technology Business Management (TBM) into the Evangelize Performance Framework (EPF), a proven framework that brings transparency, accountability, and strategic value to IT spending.

EPF enables organisations to fully view technology costs, ensuring that every pound spent delivers value. With our guidance, you can align your IT investments with business priorities, improve financial management, and drive operational efficiency.

Cost Transparency

We categorise and consolidate IT spending into clear, standard cost pools such as

  • Hardware

  • Software

  • Cloud Services

  • Labour

This provides a single source of truth for all technology expenditures, eliminating confusion and inefficiencies.

We map IT spending to specific business units, applications, and services, helping you understand precisely who is consuming what and how efficiently resources are used.

By benchmarking your costs against industry standards, we identify areas where savings can be made without compromising performance.

By adopting EPF, you gain a powerful framework that turns technology into a strategic advantage.

Financial Planning

Using EPF, we help you develop accurate IT budgets that align with business needs. We create forecasts based on real consumption data, ensuring that future investments are predictable, justified, and strategically sound. EPF is ideal for organisations that want to take control of their IT spending and align their technology investments with business priorities. It is particularly beneficial for:

  • CIOs & IT Leaders – Gain better insights into technology costs and justify IT investments to the board.

  • CFOs & Finance Teams – Improve financial accountability and ensure IT budgets are spent wisely.

  • Business Leaders & Executives – Understand how IT contributes to business performance and make informed strategic decisions.

  • IT Governance & Compliance Teams – Ensure transparency and compliance with financial and regulatory standards.

Whether you’re a large enterprise or a growing organisation, EPF can help you gain control of your IT spend, optimise costs, and drive innovation.

Through continuous monitoring and reporting, we ensure that your technology investments are delivering value.
We enable greater agility and faster decision-making by shifting spending from maintenance to innovation.

EPF is a structured approach to managing technology investments that bridges the gap between IT, finance, and business leaders. It provides a common language for understanding technology resources' cost, consumption, and performance. We help organisations answer critical questions such as:

  • How much are we spending on technology, and where is it going?

  • Are we getting the best return on our IT investments?

  • How do our costs compare to industry benchmarks?

  • Can we reduce waste and reallocate resources to drive more innovation?

By implementing EPF, we ensure that technology is not just a cost centre but a strategic enabler for growth and competitive advantage.

Evangelize Consulting's services are designed to empower businesses through AI-driven strategies, comprehensive frameworks, and innovative solutions that align technology investments with strategic business goals, driving efficiency and sustainable growth.

At Evangelize Consulting, we use Technology Business Management (TBM) to provide a structured approach to managing IT costs, ensuring that technology investments are aligned with business goals. TBM transforms IT from a traditional cost centre into a strategic enabler, driving efficiency, cost savings, and innovation.

Our approach is built on four key pillars that ensure visibility, accountability, and optimisation of IT spending.

1. Cost Transparency – Know Where Your IT Budget Goes

One of the biggest challenges businesses face is understanding where IT money is being spent. TBM creates a clear financial picture by breaking down IT costs into standardised categories that align with business functions.

At Evangelize Consulting, we categorise technology expenses into:

  • Hardware (e.g., servers, laptops, network infrastructure)

  • Software & Licensing (e.g., SaaS, enterprise applications, security tools)

  • Cloud Services (e.g., IaaS, PaaS, SaaS providers like AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)

  • Labour (e.g., IT staff salaries, contractors, managed service providers)

  • Networking & Communications (e.g., data centres, connectivity, telecom costs)

By implementing automated tracking and reporting, we ensure that every IT cost is accounted for in a way that business leaders can understand and act upon.

Outcome: You gain a single source of truth for IT expenditures, making it easier to manage budgets, eliminate waste, and justify investments.

2. Cost Allocation & Benchmarking – Link IT Spend to Business Value

TBM enables organisations to allocate IT costs to specific business units, applications, or services, ensuring financial accountability across the enterprise.

Cost Allocation Process:

  • Mapping Costs to Business Services: Instead of lumping IT costs into one general budget, we assign every cost to a specific function or service.

  • Tracking Consumption & Usage: We analyse who is consuming IT resources and whether the spend is efficient and justified.

  • Chargeback & Showback Models: These models enable departments to see the true cost of their IT usage, promoting responsible spending.

Benchmarking Against Industry Standards:

We compare your technology spending with industry peers to identify inefficiencies and areas for improvement. If your IT costs are higher than competitors, we pinpoint where savings can be made without compromising performance.

Outcome: IT spending is fairly distributed, transparent, and aligned with business value, helping leaders prioritise investments that drive growth.

3. Financial Planning & Forecasting – Smarter IT Budgeting

Without a well-structured financial plan, IT expenses can rapidly escalate. TBM introduces a data-driven approach to IT budgeting, ensuring that economic decisions are based on actual consumption and business needs.

How We Improve IT Financial Planning:

  • Data-Driven Budgeting: We use real-time analytics to create accurate IT budgets that align with business priorities.

  • Scenario Planning: We help businesses model different financial scenarios to anticipate future IT costs and make informed decisions.

  • Investment Prioritisation: We assist in evaluating IT projects based on ROI, ensuring that only the most valuable initiatives receive funding.

With TBM, we eliminate guesswork and replace it with data-backed financial management, helping organisations optimise every pound spent on technology.

Outcome: IT budgets become predictable, efficient, and aligned with long-term business strategy.

4. Value Optimisation – Shift from Cost Cutting to Innovation

Many organisations spend too much on maintenance and not enough on innovation. TBM helps rebalance IT spending so that more funds are allocated to transformational projects that drive business growth.

Key Steps in IT Value Optimisation:

  • Identifying Cost Efficiencies: We pinpoint areas where savings can be made, such as consolidating redundant applications or renegotiating vendor contracts.

  • Reallocating Resources to Innovation: Instead of wasting money on legacy systems, we help businesses invest in new technologies, automation, and digital transformation.

  • Measuring Business Impact: We track the return on investment (ROI) of IT spending, ensuring that every pound spent delivers tangible business value.

Outcome: Organisations become more agile, competitive, and future-ready, with IT as a catalyst for innovation rather than a cost burden.

The TBM Process in Action: A Step-by-Step Breakdown

1️⃣ Data Collection & Cost Mapping – We gather all IT financial data and categorise it into meaningful cost pools.
2️⃣ Transparency & Reporting – We implement dashboards and reports to provide real-time visibility into IT spending.
3️⃣ Cost Allocation & Business Alignment – IT costs are mapped to services, business units, and strategic initiatives.
4️⃣ Benchmarking & Optimisation – We compare spending with industry standards and identify cost-saving opportunities.
5️⃣ Financial Planning & Forecasting – We create data-driven IT budgets and financial models for better decision-making.
6️⃣ Continuous Improvement & Value Optimisation – We monitor IT investments and reallocate resources towards innovation and business growth.

The Bottom Line: Why TBM Matters

With Technology Business Management, you no longer have to guess where your IT budget is going. Instead, you’ll have:

Full cost transparency – Every IT pound is tracked and justified.
Stronger IT-business alignment – Technology investments directly support business goals.
Optimised spending – Reduce unnecessary costs and reinvest in innovation.
Data-driven decision-making – Financial and operational insights drive smarter investments.

Want to take control of your IT budget and unlock real business value? Let’s talk.

How Technology Business Management (TBM) Works?

Define The Scope of the Business Capability
Define What Elements The Solution Consists Of.
Define What Resources The Solution Consists Of.
Define What Costs Make Up The Resource.
Technology Business Management (TBM) is a discipline that improves business outcomes by giving organisations a consistent way to translate technology investments into business value.
Finance and technology leaders need comprehensive visibility, planning, billing, benchmarking, and optimisation of their technology investments regardless of technology stack, delivery, or development model.
The First Step is to decide what it is that you are focusing upon.
In this example, it is the Mobile Ordering Capability of the Organisation.
The Second Step is to decide which Solutions make up the Mobile Ordering Capability, and how these Solutions will be measured.

In this case, four solutions make up Mobile Ordering Business Capability
  • The Business solution consists of Order Management and Sales/Marketing.

  • The Delivery Solution consists of Security & Compliance coupled with Disaster Recovery.

  • The Platform Solution consists of Application Hosting and Message Bus Integration.

  • The Infrastructure Solution consists of VPN and Distributed Storage

The Third Step is to decide which Resources make up the various Solutions.

In this case, we are looking at what makes up the Business Solution, which is made up of the following three elements.

  • The Storage solution consists of Online and Offline Storage Resources.

  • The Application Solution consists of Application Development and Business Software Costs.

  • The IT Management Solution consists of Enterprise Architecture and IT Vendor Management Costs.

The Fourth and Final Step is to decide which Costs contribute to which Resources.

In this case, Internal Labor, Outside Services and Software contribute to the Application Resources element.

  • The Internal Labor cost consists of Employee/Revenue funded workforce.

  • The Outside Services cost consists of External workforce.

  • The Software cost consists of Licensing and Off The Shelf based software.

Backed by a standardised taxonomy for technology costs

The complexity and variety of technology architectures mean that every business uses its terminology or lingo to describe the elements in its own Taxonomy. This makes it very difficult to adopt best practice allocation methodologies or make efficiency comparisons across industries.

That is why in 2014, the TBM Council standardised on a TBM Taxonomy to help take the guesswork out of naming and organising cost structures. The TBM Taxonomy translates from a financial view to a technology view to a business-facing view with terminology that makes sense to each audience.

Evangelize has embedded TBM into its EPF framework because it is a superb tool from which to base strategic decision making. When coupled with Excellent business case creation and the BusinessTechnology Standard for deployment purposes EPF becomes a totally configurable entity that morphs and flex's to be of superb value for your organisation.
